On this National Day of Prayer
On the first Thursday of each May, the President of the United States calls all Americans to a National Day of Prayer. And as a country we certainly need all the help we can get. I pray especially for unity and a willingness to love one another sacrificially despite our differences.
But my heart is more heavy this morning for the country of India. India desperately needs God’s divine intervention to bring an end to the devastation caused by COVID 19 pandemic. We pray for the overwhelmed health care workers who are working tirelessly without adequate oxygen, ventilators, and access to COVID 19 vaccines. We pray that nations like ours who are fighting the battle well will share what resources we have available to ease their struggle and help them get back on track toward healing. We pray for the families, especially those in our own congregation, who have family members in India, some of whom have lost loved ones from this terrible disease.
May the Lord surround the people of India with God’s loving care, remind them that Jesus walks with them through their struggles for survival, comfort them amidst so much loss, and provide healing to their land.
We pray this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
