Pentecost is the day in the Church that we remember how the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus’ disciples after his ascension into heaven. Everyone was filled with awe as Jesus’ followers began to speak the native languages of all the foreign people who had come to Jerusalem to celebrate the first fruits of their harvest. It was a time when God decidedly was doing something new in the world by introducing these “outsiders” to God’s inclusive plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
This week, we hear from guest preacher Rev. Aleida Jernigan as she puts the question before God’s people, “What do you hear God saying to you through this text today?” It shows that God is still speaking to and through his beloved people to understand what is new in the world and how we can be part of it.
